Background of the Study
Financial risk management is a crucial component of a bank’s operations, ensuring the stability and sustainability of financial institutions. Financial risks, including credit risk, liquidity risk, market risk, and operational risk, can significantly impact the performance and long-term viability of banks. Access Bank Plc, one of the leading financial institutions in Nigeria, has adopted various risk management strategies to mitigate the effects of financial uncertainties and maintain the trust of its stakeholders. The role of effective financial risk management is particularly important in Nigerian banks, given the volatility of the financial markets and the challenges posed by macroeconomic factors.
In Nasarawa State, where Access Bank operates in a growing financial environment, financial risk management becomes even more critical due to the emerging opportunities and potential risks associated with expanding operations in less developed areas. This study seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of Access Bank’s financial risk management strategies and how these practices contribute to the bank’s overall financial stability and performance in Nasarawa State.
Statement of the Problem
Despite Access Bank’s commitment to managing financial risks, the increasing complexity of the financial markets and regional economic conditions in Nasarawa State raise concerns about the adequacy and effectiveness of these strategies. Effective risk management is vital for the bank’s success, but little research has been conducted on how Access Bank’s financial risk management practices specifically affect its operations and performance in Nasarawa State. This study aims to fill this gap by evaluating Access Bank’s risk management strategies and their impact on the bank’s financial stability in the region.

3. What challenges does Access Bank face in managing financial risks in Nasarawa State?
Research Hypotheses

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on evaluating the financial risk management practices of Access Bank in Nasarawa State.
